Basic Info
Name:Obsidian Summerby
Birthdate:08-31
Location:London, United Kingdom
Bio
The Basics

Character Name: Obsidian Summerby
PB: Dave Gahan

Age: 19
Birthday: August 31st
Wand: Willow and unicorn hair core, 13"
House in School: Hufflepuff
Bloodline: Half-blood. Mother was a muggle, father was a wizard.

Political View: Though it's suffice to say that many under Hogwarts -- primarily not involved with the Slytherin house -- were anti-Voldemort. For Obsidian, though he's withdrawn, outright loathes the Dark Lord and all his followers. In an earlier school year, Summerby was one of Cedric Diggory's several mates in Hufflepuff. Though he didn't believe a word that Potter or anyone else said about Cedric being killed by Voldemort, after the Dark Lord's return was painfully obvious, Obsidian is vehemently against those who still follow He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named's ways, but in turn is also reluctant about the Ministry of Magic, considering they had done well to tarnish Potter and Dumbledore's names. In return, all he can do is follow the examples of the D.A. and the Order of the Phoenix.
Appearance

Height: 5'7"
Weight: 155 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black
Build: Relatively well built, but overall currently continues to have the "lanky and awkward" stage of his life.
Dress Style: Basic and average; nothing that stands out, except Obsidian never seems to be able to find robes that ever fit him. Either it's cut short or is made too large for him.
Defining Marks: A bit pale, usually tired-looking with darkened bags under his eyes. Fingernails are bitten, suggesting a fairly bad habit of his. His jawline is easy to follow, angular, with a sharp chin. His hair is a bit shaggy and tangled, just a bit past is chin. He's also a bit careless about whether or not he's growing out his facial hair.
Personality

Summerby is something of a bookaholic; he simply enjoys reading in all matters of things, whether it's information or fictional or biographies. The difference between him and someone like Hermione Granger is that he does not retain any information he reads; he has to physically involved in the matter to really understand it and accept the information. At best, he could recommend books to someone, but he isn't particularly good at keeping information in his brain, which is why he constantly rereads. Being included in lessons physically allowed him to learn better -- which is why he's particularly attatched to playing Quidditch, and in some ways enjoyed "Care of Magical Creatures", even though he does find it questionable to keep giant spiders as pets.

Generally, Obsidian tries his damnedest to remain upbeat as possible, though in general he's pretty upset about the events in his life in the past couple of years. He prefers being optimistic, desperately so, which is why he finds some delight in the humorous displays of the Weasely twins' antics, and of course their joke shop. Though the world should be brighter coming now, things still remain grim, and it's not something that Summerby finds well. Cheer up; that's his goal. And he plans to ignore any conflicts that get in the way of that, trying to let things roll off his back. More often than he'd like, though, things will squash his back instead of rolling off. Still, he'll try to pretend that he'd never gotten stomped upon.

However, conflicting with wanting to be ignorant of his own difficulties, it's ignorance that displeases Summerby. He tries well to research a matter before making a decision, if only because of his horrible mistake in the past in his fifth year of Hogwarts when he ridiculed the very idea of Voldemort being alive again, moreso that he was responsible for Cedric Diggory's death. In a way, he was almost ready to believe that Harry Potter had something to do with it -- but upon realizing the truth, many things crashed down around Summerby's world. It's because of that, he can NOT stand the ignorance and biggotry of others. Summerby does his best to be open-mind for others.

Overall, though he's determined to be cheerfull as hell, whether someone likes it or not, Obsidian is a conflicted young man. Events have depressed him, even if he tries to put it out of mind and move on, he really hasn't been able to yet. He's convinced himself nothing is wrong, so he acts normal enough. In turn, he does not sleep well, hence his exhausted appearance in most cases. And yet, he wonders why he can't sleep without a potion or a charm inducing it.
Psychology

Extrovert/Introvert: Introverted; Summerby is quite social and enjoys the company of others immensely. He doesn't want to be alone and refuses to be. However, he also has severe difficulty in expressing his deeper thoughts, traumas, and personally reaching out to someone. It seems as if after all that's happened, he's a bit hesitant to get too terribly close to someone and prefers to remain as platonic as possible. All in all, though he smiles and spends a great deal of time in the company of others, he's quiet and secluded with himself.
Boggart Would Be: During his first three years of Hogwarts, Obsidian's boggart would have been a troll. Ever since first year's invasion of the creature, especially one that was told in detail to all of the students, it's something that's never really left him. Somehow, early childhood fears managed to override him over the very idea of a basilisk or giant spiders or even werewolves. After the fifth year of Hogwarts, Summerby's boggart would have been some melding of a Death Eater and Cedric Diggory; it expresses the fact that he always refused to listen to who was right all along, and that he was incredibly foolish to close his ears off to Harry and the others. Though silly to some, he even feels terrible about taking up the role as Hufflepuff's Seeker, which had once been Cedric's position on the Quidditch team. After the war, the boggart would be more twisted in its combinations of the Dark Lord, but still prominent as Cedric. He never really forgives himself for his doubts, and he can't stand the idea of making many close friends.
Patronus Would Be: After some difficulty of learning, Obsidian's finest memory was his first trip to Hogsmeade. After all, nothing terrible happened -- nothing but joy came out of the trip; spending time with friends, shopping around. Nothing specific happened, but its indeed his finest memory. Heck, third year had been very kind to Hogwarts, all in all. The only dread that came to Summerby personally was the loss of a particularly good D.A.D.A. teacher. The form of Obsidian's patronus is a fox. They are considered quick and cunning and quite sly -- but they are also considered treacherous and are smaller than many of their canine cousins. Foxes are also quite good to their family, raising each other lovingly. They stay with their family, or they go, not as strict as a pack of wolves are in their order. Obsidian is dependent on the company of others, but in turn has not decided if he wishes to "stay or go" or become personally involved. There's also the saying of being "crazy like a fox". Summerby is hardly a mental case, but he does have some issues he prefers to keep quiet about.
Sexuality

Primarily heterosexual, possibly bisexual; he's had interest in several girls before, and had a brief crush on Cho -- but she was certainly off limits. Cute and charming as she was, and though Cedric is very dead, Summerby still, in a way, considers her taken by Cedric. He's admired Ginny Weasley's Seeker skills from a previous game or two, as well as her developed wit. However, she became so popular with the boys that he'd never really advanced that stage of admiration. And though he was once a mate of Cedric's, it was no further than admiration considering he was picked for the Triwizard Tournament. That, and he was quite a Seeker. However, as an avid Quidditch fan and a Seeker himself during his Hogwarts years, there was especially the hilarity of Lee Jordan's commentary. Though they hardly ever interacted, it was difficult to ignore Jordan's sense of humor, something Obsidian's always looked forward to every Quidditch match. However, a crush is all that it ever was, for several reasons; Obsidian never really knew him, and Jordan is well gone by now. There's a potential for bisexuality, but it's an aspect that Summerby has never really explored.
Lifestyle

Occupation: Flourish & Blotts' Bookkeeper Assistant; also part-time assisting in the Magical Menagerie in caring for creatures.
Residence: A small house, not too rickety but well-used. Formerly his brother's, Obsidian has obtained use of it as his father wanted nothing of it. It's in fine shape and in a pleasant wizarding neighborhood, though Obsidian is lacking in housecleaning and isn't up to the idea of having a house-elf.
Financial Status: Middle-classed. He's not poor and he doesn't spend money on much of anything, but really the only thing that Obsidian has inherited was his brother's former home, who had been well off. The one who inherited his money, however, had been Obsidian's father -- someone Summerby is not on speaking terms with. Not poor, but not wealthy either.
Family

Parents: Alicia Trowbridge-Summerby (mother; deceased), Liam Summerby (father)
Siblings: Rosso Summerby (older brother; deceased)

Before the war, the family was fairly happy and functional. Just about any other wizarding family with the occasional "mixed blood" problems, considering Liam Summerby was wed to a muggle. However, this hardly seemed problematic; mixed bloods, half-bloods, what have you. It was the norm, for the most part, save for the eyes of some choosey "purebloods".

However, during the war and during Obsidian's sixth year, the Death Eaters pushed. They threatened Liam's muggle wife, saying that if he did not join them she would die. Liam was fiercely opposed -- however, Rosso was quick to accept the offer. He didn't want his mother to die. However, the Death Eaters were true to their word, since the remaining family memebers did not join; they killed Alicia. Rosso was furious at his father, never forgiving him for letting Alicia die, and stayed with the Death Eaters. In turn, Obsidian was also angry at his father, moreso for never informing him of the problem during his year at Hogwarts. He only learned of his mother's death after the year was over.

During the war, Obsidian was one of the many that did what he could -- but after the war, received notice that his brother had been killed. It came as no shock, but it was still a difficult matter to accept into his life. Already there'd been so much death. Cedric, Dumbledore, Alicia, and now his brother. It was difficult to carry, but he placed no blame on anyone. Not that he could; no one really defined who killed Rosso.

To this day, Obsidian rarely keeps word with his father, mostly by owls and rarely in person. Though he's angry, he's more afraid of losing his father than anything else, and isn't sure how to approach this fear other than trying to ignore it. He's at a distance more than he personally wants, but has no idea what else to do with himself on the matter.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time

At first, Obsidian Summerby was quite the happy child. First year in Hogwarts, he was sorted away into Hufflepuff, and happily socialized with many of its students. However, it was also the house belonging to Cedric Diggory, who at the time was an upperclassman and quite friendly. It was difficult to dislike him, and to be frank, Summerby quickly looked up to him for help on his classes.

Though Harry Potter was a natural on the broom, Obsidian took a liking to it as well. Quidditch was hard to dislike, after all, not that he was allowed to play in his first year. Regardless, it was quite a love. It was hands-on, and something Obsidian easily attached himself to. Futhermore, Cedric was a Quidditch player. Hard to ignore that, after all.

However, the first real fear that inflicted Summerby was the first year -- the troll's invasion into the girls' bathroom. Though Summerby never saw the creature himself, he'd seen photos of trolls before. To know that one was in the school frightened the first year boy greatly. Hogwarts, after all, was supposed to be a great wizarding school and very well protected with so many great wizards. But no, a troll penetrated the place. A troll! Somehow, the very word repeated in Obsidian's mind over the year. Even the death of Quirrel hadn't seemed to shaken the boy much. It was always the troll, and that it had been allowed inside the school grounds. Troll. Slow, dim-witted, but large and frightening -- Obsidian didn't find it easy to look over.

During the time of the Chamber of Secrets, when people were being paralyzed, this inputted only some more fear and perhaps even a bit of doubt into the Hogwarts staff. Something else snuck into the school and was tormenting them! And it all started with the ogre, in Obsidian's mind. What now? Trying to distract himself of the matters, Summerby busied himself with practicing for Quidditch, though he was yet on the team. Still, his friends assured him that he would surely become part of the team next year. Even if he didn't, it was still something to keep himself busy for and look forward to the matches.

It was during the time that when the houses gathered to watch the Quidditch matches that he found himself truly enjoying Jordan's commentary. Between the classes, students and ghosts getting paralyzed, and rumors floating around, there was some relief in the humor. Being upbeat seemed to be the only way to go, and he admired people like Lee Jordan for that.

Though all was, once again, sorted out by Harry Potter and his friends, Summerby was still a bit discouraged. A basilisk had been living in their school all this time, after all.

It was in his third year that eased him into good times, in spite of the break-out of Sirius Black and the dementors causing problems, including in Quidditch. Regardless, things were well. It was Obsidian's first trip to Hogsmeade and really a chance to get to know his mates better, Cedric included. It also allowed him the chance of meeting Cho Chang and at least knowing her better than knowing of her existence simply. Also, he finally had his chance to join the Quidditch team as a Beater, though he tried to do well to keep from laughing off his broom at Lee Jordan's wit.

All matters pertaining to the truth of Sirius Black and his background had little effect on Obsidian, but he was quite pleased with the year. Remus Lupin was a sufficient teacher; the only discouragements was that he had to leave, but also conflicting with it was that Lupin was a werewolf. Yet again, another creature snuck into the school! Still, Remus had been a good teacher, and if Hagrid's class had suggested anything, it was that creatures were... well, almost like people in a way. Good, and the bad.

While getting over his fear of trolls in his fourth year, it was the year where he was most traumatized and began to even dislike Harry Potter. After all, the boy had gotten so much attention in school, and now his name coming from the Goblet of Fire was even more suspicious. Obsidian decided the boy was hungry for attention and popularity. After all, clearly Cedric was the better man. Heck, Cedric had dibs on Cho first!

After Cedric's death and the reinforcement that it was the Dark Lord that killed him, Summerby lived in denial. The Dark Lord just couldn't be alive. Clearly, Harry was lying. Hell, maybe he even had something to do with Cedric's death. The Ministry of Magic didn't trust Dumbledore or Harry -- why should Obsidian? So he didn't. He was close to hating Potter.

It was next year, his fifth year, where he decided to take on being a Seeker for the Hufflepuffs. Though his friends reassured it was a good choice, Obsidian felt wary. He wasn't up to replacing Cedric, but... he wasn't, really. Was he? Of course not. But doubts filled him, and he became conflicted. Augh, the whole thing stunk and it was Potter's fault. Hell, Harry was getting close to Cho, and it wasn't right.

At the end of the year, though, Summerby had been wrong. The Ministry was wrong and he had been IGNORANT. He felt like such a fool. Furthermore, as a quiet loss, there wouldn't exactly be any further commentaries during Quidditch from Lee. Sixth year was looking less and less appealing; the only reinforcement that he ought to go was by his parents, who were firm that he needed to finish Hogwarts.

Still, during his sixth year, Summerby felt terrible. He'd ignored the warnings, ridiculed it, and even hated Potter for awhile because of Cedric's unfortunate fate. He didn't know what to do with himself except push on. With tragedies left and right, he only felt relief he never got word from his folks if anything dreadful happened.

But then... there was the Battle of Hogwarts. At first terrified, Summerby was able to defend himself at the very least and did his best to fight back, but mostly he covered his own back. Was this the sort of thing that Cedric had faced before he died? He'd never thought to ask Harry, after all. Death Eaters, all over, and the mark in the sky.

And Dumbledore's death. Hitting everyone hard, and then the disappearance of other students.

And terror to arrive home to.

When Obsidian arrived home, he was met with his father and told immediately. His mother died, because of the Death Eaters. And yet, his brother joined the Dark Lord, because of the Death Eaters.

He was angry at his father for never saying a word. He was angry that there might not even be a school to go back to. Silence filled their house, and Obsidian left whenever he could, wandering away to Diagon Alley. His frequent visits snagged him a job at Flourish & Blotts, simply as a bookkeeper; it was fitting enough, as he did enjoy reading, even if he couldn't remember very well the things he'd read. But also, he had gone to like to see Fred and George's joke shop, more as a window shopper and trying to think optimistically. Things were going to get better, surely.

Obsidian remained at home for his last bit of education; though he didn't speak much to his father, he'd been hired a tutor and home education. Apathetically, Obsidian continued learning.

During the war itself, Obsidian had little to do with it, except that he was vicious to protect Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, the last two places he really truly enjoyed spending his time at. Once the war was over, two bits of news floated to him; from his father, he learned that his brother had been killed. From word of mouth, he'd learned the same had been done to Lee Jordan.

It was almost as if he had a fit. Obsidian picked up everything he had and took his brother's old home for his own. He couldn't stand the idea of living with his father any further. There wasn't much else left, really. Just distant friends, books, and an old house.

Keep on laughing. He wanted to. He kept himself a frequent visitor to the joke shops and trying to be optimistic in his solitude. Only, it doesn't seem to be getting him far much...
